A double cross on three hills (the Tatra, the Mátra and the Fatra) which are part of the Slovak coat of arms and have been a symbol of the Slovak nation since the 16th century. The motif appears against a background of stylized rocks, expressing the stability and strength of the state. It was designed by sculptor Ivan Rehak.

From 2009 until now

A double cross on three hills (the Tatra, the Mátra and the Fatra) which are part of the Slovak coat of arms and have been a symbol of the Slovak nation since the 16th century. The motif appears against a background of stylized rocks, expressing the stability and strength of the state. It was designed by sculptor Ivan Rehak.

This coin commemorates the 20th anniversary of the peaceful student demonstration which took place in Prague on 17 November 1989 and was severely repressed by police. Demonstrations spread to other cities and heralded the end of the soviet era two years later.

The coin commemorates the 20th anniversary of the formation of the Visegrad Group. The Group is also known as the "Visegrád Four" or "V4" and is composed of the four Central European states – the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. Set up following a summit meeting of the Heads of state or government of Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Poland held in the Hungarian castle town of Visegrád on 15 February 1991, its main purpose is to cooperate in areas of common interest within the process of European integration.

2013 - 1150th anniversary of the advent of the Mission of Constantine and Methodius to the Great Moravia

The design depicts the Thessalonian brothers Constantine and Methodius along with the symbolic double cross stood on three hills. The cross is at the same time held as a Bishop's crozier, thereby linking together symbols of statehood and Christianity and emphasising the significance of the brothers' mission, which helped ensure the full sovereignty and legitimacy of Great Moravia — the first Slav state in central Europe.
